A woman has gone viral after sharing a heartwarming clip of her asking her stepfather to adopt her for Christmas.

Nicole Anderson, 21, from Annan, Dumfries and Galloway, has known her stepdad since she was one and began calling him dad at 12.

She first told her mum, Vicky Nicholson, 39, that she wanted to be adopted by her stepdad, Brady Nicholson, 36, for Christmas last year.

As a fisherman, Brady spends long periods away from home so Nicole planned the adoption around the Christmas period when the family would all be together.

She decided to make a scrapbook containing all her favourite family memories so Brady could look through them before making the big decision.

The scrapbook contained a look back at her mum and stepdad’s wedding, as well as family holidays and the births of siblings.

In a sweet clip posted on TikTok, a nervous Nicole shows Brady the scrapbook and watches as he reads the final page – "Will you adopt me?"

Brady immediately says “sure will”, and hugs Nicole, who is in tears.

The clip went viral on TikTok, where it racked up more than 100,000 views and was liked 5,000 times.

One person commented: “This is so lovely! I’m so happy for you all.”

Someone else added: “Sure will. I sobbed.”

“How lovely it made me cry, happy for you both,” another person commented.

“I felt scared and excited at the same time,” Nicole said.

“I’m so glad he agreed, although I knew he would because of how much he loves me.

“Everyone was over the moon. It was hard for me to tell my biological dad but he was happy for me.”

The adoption hasn’t been made legal yet due to the nature of Brady’s work making the process longer and lockdown adding extra obstacles.

Although they are still waiting for it to become official, their relationship hasn’t been affected by the delay.

Nicole said: “I’ve always known he wasn’t my real dad.

“He’s always treated me as his own – whenever I had problems he’d be by my side. He never let me struggle and just stepped up as a father figure.”

Even though Nicole is being adopted as an adult and Brady is only 15 years older than her, the small age gap has only made her closer to her parents.

Nicole added: “I think because we are so close in age we understand each other more and it makes us bond so much better.

“It’s the same with my mum. We are all best friends.”
