A woman has gone viral on TikTok after sharing a “must try” tip for keeping avocados fresher for longer – and she says it saves her £62 a month.

Veronica Cannady, 31, from New York, US, shared a clip of her leftover half of an avocado and explained how to preserve the fruit without it going brown.

Demonstrating how it works, she dips the leftover avocado half – leaving the seed still attached – into a cup of water, and stores it in the fridge.

She says: “So ever since I learned from TikTok that you can put avocados inside of water and put them in the refrigerator to preserve them and keep them from turning brown, I’ve never stopped doing it. Definitely recommend.”

Veronica claims this helps prevent the fruit from turning brown before she has a chance to eat it.

She has found that the avocados can be stored for two days and remain at perfect freshness.

The avocado-lover heard about the hack on TikTok and decided to try it out after often finding herself wasting the leftover fruit.

“I decided to try that hack one day and it actually worked – so instantly after that I started using this hack in my household,” Veronica, an influencer, said.

“After all, who wants to waste avocados or money?

“We save lots of money now – avocados can be expensive, especially if they are organic. Now we don’t have to worry about brown avocados.

“We eat them daily in our house. You can save about $83 (£62) a month – avocados in the US aren’t cheap and cost about $5 (£3.75) each.”

After sharing the clip on TikTok, the video racked up more than 780,000 likes and was viewed 10 million times – with viewers calling it a “must try” tip.

One person commented: “The number of avocados I’ve wasted. TikTok teaches me more and more every day.”

“No way! That’s such a lifesaver!!” another user said.

Someone else added: “This is the best tip I have ever learned on TikTok.”
