Two tourists from Pakistan were arrested after allegedly trying to smuggle heroin into Thailand.

The unnamed suspects aged 26 and 35 had flown in from Karachi to Bangkok, landing in Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) on November 29. However, customs officials allegedly found contraband inside their bags during inspection upon their arrival.

The officers reported they confiscated 1.1kg of heroin and 30.6kg of ketamine disguised as packets of powdered tea. The drugs are said to have amounted to 95 million THB (about 2.1 million GBP)

The suspected drug mules reportedly confessed to receiving 20,000 THB (roughly 444 GBP) each by a Pakistani man to deliver the illegal goods.

Another contact was supposed to claim their bags after they had passed the customs checkpoint.

Customs Department director-general Patchara Anuntasilpa said an investigation is now ongoing to trace the mastermind of the attempted drug smuggling case.

He added: ‘The suspects have been remanded in custody. Officers will interrogate them until we find who they were working with.’
