Quarry dig uncovers 164 ancient silver and copper coins in central India
An ancient earthen pot containing 12 silver coins and 152 copper coins was found by workers in a stone quarry in central India on 30 November.
The extraordinary find happened in Nadanwara in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh on November 30.
Video features officials measuring the weight of the coins, which have Urdu inscriptions, before placing them on the counter and putting them in small packets.
When workers found the pot and coins they alerted a watchman, who later informed the manager of the mine, KV Mishra, who passed on the information to Tikamgarh officials.
They later informed Mineral Officer Prashant Tiwari and a team of revenue officers, who were sent to take possession of the antique coins for safekeeping. Metallurgist Uday Kumar Soni assisted with analysis.
