Hundreds of protesters gathered at Muizenberg Beach on Cape Town’s False Bay Coast to oppose Shell Oil’s plans to do seismic testing off the coast of South Africa’s Eastern Cape province.

South Africa’s High Court on Friday dismissed an application by various activist groups to interdict Shell from proceeding with the seismic tests. The judge was not convinced that irreparable harm would be done to the environment if the tests proceeded.

Greenpeace Africa, Natural Justice, the Border Deep Sea Angling Association and the Kei Mouth Ski Boat Club – filed the urgent application to block the seismic survey, believing it would irreparably harm the environment and marine life.

Protesters have vowed to continue the protests throughout South Africa.
