Two people died in a building fire in Indonesia on Thursday December 2.

The victims, identified as Seto, 18, and Redzuan, 17, were technicians working in the Cyber 1 Building of Jakarta City’s Mampang Prapatan District. The building is a data center containing servers of several tech companies in Indonesia.

The Jakarta Fire Department deployed 40 fire engines to the location.

Mulat Wijayanto of the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency said: ‘The incident occurred on the second floor of the building. So far, two people have died.’

The two technicians perished after reportedly inhaling too much smoke. They were both trapped for some time before being evacuated from the building by firefighters.

Another victim, 20-year-old Bagus, was rescued in a weak condition.

Mulat said: ‘One person is currently being treated in hospital. There are no burns, but the victim inhaled too much smoke from the fire.’

Initial investigations found that the fire may have been triggered by an electrical short circuit.

Several smartphone applications were reportedly disrupted after the incident.
