Dramatic rescue by heroic Coast Guard helicopter crew at Niagara Falls ends tragically
This is the dramatic and harrowing footage of a US Coast Guard helicopter attempting to rescue a woman in her 60s whose car had plunged into the waters of Niagra Falls on Wednesday (December 8) afternoon.
The woman was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, despite the intense efforts of the helicopter crew.
Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle floating near a pedestrian bridge, where it was believed to have gone in. Roads in the area were slippery as light snow fell, reports indicate.
Authorities said the woman lived in the area. Her name was not released pending the notification of her relatives.
The car remains in the water while New York State Parks determines the best course of action to remove it.
