Myanmar streets deserted as locals hold ‘silence strike’ in protest at military
Footage shows the deserted streets of Yangon in Myanmar on Friday December 10 as locals unite with a ‘Silence Strike’ to show their anger at authoritarian rule by the military.
Shops and market stalls were closed with normally busy streets eerily quiet following scenes of violence last Saturday and this week.
The country has been in turmoil since February when popular leader Aung San Suu Kyi, 76, was ousted by a ruthless military coup that sparked widespread protests and brutal crackdown.

Protest leader Khin Sandar said: 'We need to send a message to the world about Myanmar's terrible human rights violations.
