Surfers in Switzerland braved a freezing winter storm on Friday to hit the waves in a surf pool in the Alps.

The footage filmed on December 10 at the Alaïa Bay surf pool in Sion shows surfers in slow motion riding the waves during the strongest storm of the winter so far.

There have already been a few days of snow this winter but Friday was the most intense so far with over a foot of snow while a lot more fell higher up in the mountains.

And this was with big waves, "Pro" level at Alaïa Bay surf pool.
Alaïa Bay opened in spring 2021 and so this is the first winter where one can watch surfers during snow storm.
There have been a few days already with snowfall all the way down to the bottom of the valley but december 10 was the most intense with over a foot of snow, and more in the mountains. Many regions in the swiss Alps are now in high risk for avalanches, level 4 out of 5 max.
It's funny now you can count surfing as a winter sport ! ;-)
