A desperate pet owner performed CPR on a dying newborn puppy to save its life in the Philippines.

Fur mom Zhakira Vhiel Jamie recorded herself trying to revive the unmoving pooch in their home in Subic City, Zambales province on November 4.

She rhythmically stroked and pumped its chest while attempting to jumpstart its heart. Desperate, she even conducted mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to breathe some oxygen into the tiny dog’s lungs. After a few minutes, the puppy finally showed signs of life when it yawned and started gulping in air.

Zhakira said the pup was part of a litter of five, born on November 2 after the mother dog experienced pregnancy complications due to its age. Unfortunately, two of the newborn mutts died the next morning, Zhakira finding their fragile bodies hardened from rigor mortis.

She said: ‘When I checked the following morning, three of them weren’t breathing. I touched two puppies, but their bodies were already stiff.

‘One was still soft though so I did CPR immediately and tried to revive it.’

Zhakira said she learned to do CPR from online videos after she was traumatised by the death of a beloved puppy last year. She added that she named the revived puppy ‘Amil’ – an Arabic name meaning hope.

She took Amil and its remaining siblings to the veterinarian to be checked right away. However, despite her best efforts, the entire litter died from their weak constitution just three days after their birth.

She said: ‘I really wanted to save all of the puppies. Butter, the mother of the dogs, still cries while looking for them.’
