If you've ever taken a few moments to recognise someone through bleary eyes, you can surely relate to the early morning confusion of this elephant calf in South Africa.

Stumbling around her pen, orphaned elephant Khanyisa at first did not recognise her sheep companion Lammie.

The hilarious moment was captured on camera on 21 September 2021.

Khanyisa was rescued from a poacher's snare in January 2020 and came to Hoedspruit Elephant Rehabilitation and Development for rehabilitation and care (HERD).

During her time at the orphanage, Khanyisa has become best friends with Lammie, a Pedi sheep who has acted as a mother to many orphaned animals. But on this morning, she didn't recognise her at first!
