A tornado ripping through rice fields has damaged hundreds of houses in Indonesia on Wednesday.

The footage filmed on December 15 in Madiun in Indonesia's East Java province shows the storm tearing through the rice fields, as well as shots of the many damaged houses affected by the storm.

Officials said almost 300 houses were destroyed or damaged, including a local police station.

Hundreds of houses were damaged by a huge tornado in Indonesia.

Footage filmed in Madiun, East Java province on Wednesday (15 December), shows tornado from the dark sky with its vortex tearing the rice fields.

Ranggas, the local disaster volunteer officer, said that the tornado came from the west during heavy rains, then swept through four villages and ended up in the fields.

"Tornado destroys 277 houses and damaging the Wonoasri police station," Ranggas said.

Officers ensured that there were no fatalities or injuries, meanwhile, residents whose houses were badly damaged fled to the homes of family or neighbors.
