In light of the invincible siege imposed on Gaza and border crossings' closures, piles of dead batteries are posing a grave threat to the environment. The hazardous waste of dead batteries contains toxic metals that may harm human health. Yet, batteries are normally recycled and exported, but with the invincible siege, it is impossible. About 25 thousand tons of batteries were used in the Gaza strip due to the frequent electricity outage. Furthermore, thousands of people who used to make a living by selling used batteries and scrap went out of business.
