A newborn puppy that was trapped inside a water pipe was rescued by its owners in the Philippines.

The family began looking for the pup which went missing a day after its mother had given birth. They searched around nearby alleyways and heard its cries coming from a canal.

Footage captured in Montalban municipality in Rizal province shows the pet owners fishing out the pup that had slipped into the sewage pipe. They successfully rescued the pooch after a few minutes.

The sludge-covered mutt was then given a bath and some medicine after she sustained minor injuries on her paws.

Fur parent Peach Salvador said: 'We still don't know how she got there, but we're happy because she's now safe and healthy together with her siblings.'

Peach added that they have named the puppy 'Imbu' which is short for 'imburnal' or sewer in Filipino.
