Mass protests held across Sudan despite recent power-sharing deal
Mass protests against the military's takeover were held across Sudan on Sunday 19 December, on the third anniversary of a popular uprising.
Hundreds of thousands marched in the capital Khartoum, with large demonstrations also seen in other cities.
Major roads to airports and army headquarters, and bridges connecting Khartoum to sister cities Bahri and Omdurman were closed down ahead of the protests.
Following its October coup, the military did a power-sharing deal in November with the prime minister they had deposed. But opposition protesters are demanding a fully civilian government and full democracy.
The protests also marked the anniversary of demonstrations in 2019 that led to the overthrow of Sudan's long-term authoritarian President Omar al-Bashir.
