Officials continued to count ballots into Monday 20 December, after Sunday's Hong Kong legislative council elections.

Candidates were applauded as results were announced.

Pro-Beijing candidates have overwhelmingly won seats in the LegCo vote, from which their opponents were effectively barred by new 'patriots only' electoral rules imposed by Beijing.

Given little choice but to vote for Beijing loyalists or the handful of independents still willing and able to stand, voters largely shunned the polls, which had a record low turnout of 30.2%.
