Sausage dog balances festive favourites on his head and recreates iconic Christmas movie scene
This adorable dachshund is a real Christmas cracker, balancing brussels sprouts, mince pies and other festive favourites on his head.
Sausage dog Harlso earns himself a round of apaws as he perfectly holds still the precariously placed party items.
The 4-year-old pooch shows off his incredible talent in a series of fun selfies - even posing with an elf on his shelf to complete the Christmas compilation.
Owner Paul Lavery, 32, said: “Harlso loves to do the balancing stunts, they are all just fun for him.
“Christmas is a time for fun and surprises, and what better than a sausage dog balancing mince pies on their head?
“We first discovered he could do it when I was playing with him when he was about two years old, and I balanced his favourite toy chicken on his head.
“Instead of shaking it off like another dog might, he just stood there, and the chicken stayed where it was.
“It has become a bit of a thing seeing what we can try next.”
In a heartwarming video, Harlso even recreates the iconic "Love Actually" film scene, where lovestruck Mark played by Andrew Lincoln expresses his true feelings to Juliet played by Keira Knightley using paper signs.
He shows off his best puppy dog eyes as he looks up at the messages on top of his head, while dressed in a dapper bow tie.
The Belfast-based pooch took the internet by storm after social worker Paul and his wife Jennifer, 31, uncovered his impressive party piece when he was two years old.
Starting small with items such as oranges and other pieces of fruit, he soon mastered the art of balancing almost anything on his head - including a football and a pint of Guinness.
Harlso The Balancing Hound now has close to 200,000 followers on Instagram, where fans are wowed with his balancing skills.
When he accomplishes one of the tricks he is rewarded with cuddles, praise and treats and loves the attention that the stunts receive.
“He’s definitely a dog who loves the spotlight,” said Paul. “He’ll work hard for some delicious treats and enjoys being the centre of attention.
“As soon as he sees the camera come out, he knows it’s his time to shine.”
When Paul proposed to Jennifer in New York’s Times Square, it was no surprise that Harlso was on hand, balancing the diamond ring on his head to complete the perfect proposal.
At the couple's wedding, he also made an enchanting ring bearer, taking centre stage in the nuptials.
Harlso has won a 2019 Webby Award due to his talents and is even listed as one of the Guinness World Records Amazing Animals.
He also recently won Northern Ireland’s Social Media Personality of the Year, beating several humans to the prize.
But despite his rise to fame, the couple insists it hasn’t changed him.
Paul added: “He was always really bossy and a bit of a diva so the fame hasn’t changed him, he’s always been like that.
“We have asked the vet if it is alright to do the tricks with him, but they said it is all positive reinforcement and there is nothing to worry about.”
