A car crashed through the wall of a family home after the driver allegedly stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake.

Resident Wongsathon Imsum was preparing dinner with his wife in their back garden in Nakhon Sawan province on December 22 when they suddenly heard a loud crash.

The husband said: 'I was cooking dinner while my daughter was watching TV in the hallway. We heard a big roar in front of the house so we hurried out to look.'

Wongsathon was shocked to discover that a car had broken through his home, creating an 8ft-wide hole in the wall. The car was also deep inside his property and had damaged some of the family's belongings, including a motorcycle that had been pushed onto a nearby staircase.

The car's windshield was reportedly shattered while its hood was dented. Wongsathon approached the damaged vehicle and found a dazed Buddhist monk sitting on the driver's seat with a large wound on his head.

Paramedics later arrived at the scene and took the monk to the nearest hospital for treatment.

The monk said he had driven from a temple across the street and tried to avoid a dog that ran in front of his car, but hit the gas instead of the brake.

Wongsathon said: 'Monk Ananth told me a dog ran in front of the car so he tried to hit the brakes but accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead. He lives in the temple opposite to my home.

'The temple will be paying me 25,000 THB for the damage.'

Police visited the scene to investigate. They interviewed the monk in hospital but took further action against him.
