Fifty firefighters battled a blaze in the Belfast Harbour estate area of Belfast in the early hours of this morning (December 29).

After thick smoke was seen billowing from the Clearway Disposal scrap metal recycling plant, firefighters arrived at the site on East Twin Road just after 1300 GMT.

Local residents were asked to keep their windows shut and drivers were warned to avoid the area.

50 firefighters are dealing with a blaze in the Belfast Harbour estate area of Belfast.

Eight appliances are at the scene and crews are likely to remain until the early hours of Wednesday.

Crews arrived at the Clearway Disposal scrap metal recycling business at 13:02 GMT and thick black smoke has been billowing from the East Twin Road site.

People living nearby are being asked to keep their windows closed and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
