A huge monitor lizard rampaged through a woman’s home in Thailand.

Homeowner Dollaya Sirichan, 29, was outside when she saw the 6ft-long monitor lizard racing through her backyard in Ang Thong province on December 27.

The giant lizard then ran past her car and hid inside the storeroom. She called the local rescue team after seeing the reptile’s size.

The team found the creature hiding in the dark room, under a chair. They used a hook to secure the lizard’s mouth before dragging it out.

The stubborn reptile fought back for more than 20 minutes, but the team continued pulling until it was out of the storeroom. They tied its legs and covered its head with a cloth before freeing it to a swamp away from the neighbourhood.

Dollaya said: ‘I have never come across a monitor lizard this big. I think it came to my house to bring me luck.’

Asian water monitor lizards live in canals and ponds in large cities in Thailand where they feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

They are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria.
