Temperatures fell to 6 degrees Celsius on a Thai mountain during the country’s winter cold spell.

The chill swept over Doi Inthanon mountain, the highest in northern Thailand’s Chiang Mai province in the first few days of January 2022.

Layers of frost covered the grass on the famous mountain as temperatures are expected to get warmer by one to two degrees by January 9.

Thick fog is expected in the morning throughout the region. The cool weather in northern Thailand is caused by strong cold air masses circulating in the area.

Thailand is currently going through its cooler winter period where temperatures in the north of the country fall to single digits while in the capital Bangkok they can fall to the mid-teens on cold nights. It remains much hotter in the south of the country.
