There were long queues for controversial London attraction Marble Arch Mound on Sunday 9 January -- its last day in operation.

The tourist venue in Marble Arch was widely criticised for running way over budget, as well as disappointing views and, initially, an off-putting ticket price.

Stung by the criticism, the local council later made the attraction free, after which it became more popular.

Nonetheless, it has only been open for six months and it is unclear whether it achieved its primary aim, which was to draw people back to London's West End.

The six million pound (8.17m US dollars) project attracted a total of 240 000 visitors.
