After not getting his loan approved from a bank, an agitated man allegedly got revenge on the financial institution by setting it on fire.

The incident happened on 8 January at Canara Bank's Hedigonda branch, in the Haveri district of southern India's Karnataka.

Video shows smoke billowing from the burning building while fire fighters attempt to get control of the situation.

Kaginele police later arrested the alleged culprit as he attempted to leave the village.

The man applied for a loan at the bank but got rejected since his Credit Information Bureau India Limited (CIBIL) score was low.

Disappointed over rejection, he broke one of the bank's windows and poured petrol inside. Following this, he set the premises on fire, gutting property worth over 16,000 US dollars.
