Snowstorms hit the northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido on Wednesday, January 12 bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds, creating whiteout conditions in some areas.

Flooding was also seen in some low-lying areas on the prefecture's eastern Pacific coast due to storm surge.
