Location: Sirkazhi Mayiladuthurai district of Tamilnadu State in South India.

Pongal is a harvest festival celebrated in many states of India. But this time the government of Tamilnadu banned Kannum Pongal celebrations. (On this day usually people get to meet with families and relatives.)

Due to this ban people thought of celebrating this Pongal in a different manner. They choose to keep themselves engaged in a different manner to celebrate the festival.

They opted for a rangoli (a traditional Indian art form using coloured sand or powder to decorate the floor or the entrance of the houses) competition.

Many women and girls actively participated in the competition. They drew women cattles and peacocks. Best art was selected and prizes were given away...
