Derbyshire police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after an 86-year-old woman suffered fatal injuries and her husband, 88, was left fighting for his life in hospital.

The police force has revealed the man arrested is 33 years old and was detained in Warsop, Nottinghamshire, on Thursday (January 20)

Officers were called to Station Road in Langwith Junction near Mansfield at around 9:30 am on January 15 after paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance service discovered the two injured people.

Police reported that a woman died at the scene and a male was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
