Extreme Winter Driving Conditions on Ontario Highway during Snowsquall

Buy video

High convective winds off of Lake Huron along the edge of an intense snow squall cause complete whiteout conditions. Highway 21 in Ontario, Canada is notorious for having abrupt changes in winter driving stemming from warm open water and the flow of cold arctic air over it. These punishing squalls are the result.

This clip is of the worst section of the squall near St. Joseph's, where open fields meet the lakeshore, allowing for blowing snow to create zero visibility conditions.
