In times where people are afraid of bats, this village in eastern India's Bihar houses millions of them because the locals believe that the mammals protect their homes.

Visuals shot on January 12 feature the Laharnia village, located in the Triveniganj region of the Supaul district, also known as the 'village of bats'.

Footage shows several colonies of bats flying in and around a garden located on the edge of a farm. Later, the mammals remain perched on the tall trees as the locals express their sentiments towards the bats.

According to the locals, the bats have been residing in the region for over 100 years, and they protect the village. When the area suffered an earthquake or a flood, the settlement emerged out of the natural calamities, unscathed.

The locals credit their survival to the bats and therefore do not bother the mammals. They do not cut the garden spread on 50 acres of land, nor have they ever tried to chase the bats away.
