A Sumatran tiger was seen blocking the path of an excavator clearing trees near a palm oil plantation in West Pasaman Regency, Indonesia.

Footage from January 17 shows the tiger standing in front of the machine before walking over to lie on a dirt road.

Head of the Center for Conservation and Natural Resources, Ardi Andono, told local media: "That's right, it's a Sumatran tiger that has come out of its habitat and is disturbed by land clearing activities carried out by two excavators."

Authorities have requested that the excavator activities be stopped so the tiger's habitat is not disturbed.

Footage filmed on Monday (17 January), around an oil palm plantation area in West Pasaman district, West Sumatra province.

From the wheelhouse, a tiger seen standing in front of the excavator, then walked sideways to lie on the dirt road that had been traced by the excavator while watching the movements of the workers.

Additional footage shows the Sumatran tiger preventing trees from being pulled by an excavator.

Officers from the Center for Conservation and Natural Resources (BKSDA) of West Sumatra, confirmed the video.

The head of the West Sumatra BKSDA, Ardi Andono, told the media that his party sent team to the location.

"That's right, it's a Sumatran tiger that has come out of its habitat and is disturbed by land clearing activities carried out by two excavators," Andono said on Tuesday (18/1).

Authorities requested that excavator activities be temporarily stopped so as not to disturb the tiger habitat in the vicinity of the incident location.
