Good Samaritans took relief goods to trapped residents on the other side of a swollen river using a pulley.

Rescue volunteers went to the remote village in Southern Leyte province, the Philippines to bring food packs after the onslaught of the powerful tropical cyclone Rai on January 2.

Upon reaching the foot of the mountain, the team were greeted by residents trapped on the other side of a swollen river who could not use their vehicles to cross and buy food.

To bring help to the village, the good Samaritans with the help of local officers set up a pulley so they could slide packs of food and other essentials while waiting for more help to evacuate the residents.

Volunteer Lourence Mae Alkuino said: 'I could not believe that a lot of people would help, this mission became possible despite the bad weather.

Super typhoon Rai, locally named Odette, was the strongest typhoon of 2021 which strengthened from a Category 1 typhoon to Category 5 in just one day.
