Huge Atlantic Ocean 'roll cloud' stretches to the horizon, off Brazil

Buy video

A Greek sailor has filmed a spectacularly long 'roll cloud' over the Atlantic Ocean, stretching as far as the eye can see.

The cloud type, sometimes called a 'line cloud', is formally known as an Arcus cloud. They often form along the leading edge or gust front of a storm.

The footage was filmed in early January 2022 over the sea near Brazil's Rio Grande.

"Have you ever seen anything like this?" can be heard in Greek at the start of the video, as sailors admired the strange phenomenon.
