The Hershey Bears game was forced into an intermission on Saturday (January 22) after the team scored their first goal as thousands of furry friends were thrown by the audience on the ice rink.

The teddy bear toss is a popular winter season event most common at junior ice hockey and minor league hockey games. Fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears or other stuffed toys to the game, and to throw them onto the ice when the home team scores its first goal.

The "Toss a Bear" game is for charity purposes and supports children nationwide. The event itself broke a world record with 52,341 stuffed animals filling the Giant Center ice within minutes. A crowd of 10,514 people created an average of nearly five bears tossed per person.
