This is the bizarre moment a pair of seven-year-old twins were married to fulfil a belief that it will 'remove bad luck from their past lives'.

Brother and sister Phurich and Phurichya Pinate wore gold and white traditional costumes for their wedding inside their home in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand on January 24.

Their Buddhist parents organised the ceremony because they believe that the youngsters were former lovers in their past lives but their romance was cut short through illness or accident - like Jack and Rose in Titanic. The lovers were reborn in this life as twins but will be haunted by bad luck unless they get married, according to the superstition.

Footage shows the twins receiving gifts - including gold and cash - from well-wishes and relatives during the religious ceremony performed by a local Buddhist monk. This was followed by a wedding meal.

Their father Settha Pinate, 45, said: ‘We did the wedding because we care about our children. We want them to be comfortable in this life. I know we did the right thing.’

Settha added that the twins were lovers in the past but were born as siblings in this life by mistake so they had to perform the wedding to ‘fix it.’

He said: ‘We believe that the lovers could have died even before they were married so we need to proceed with the ceremony to fix it and make their souls happy.

'This might seem strange to some people but it is our belief.'

However, the twin’s wedding was only ceremonial and does not hold legal validity, as even in Thailand relatives are not allowed to get married.

Buddhism is the official religion being practised by more than 95 per cent of the population in Thailand as well as neighbouring countries such as Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia.
