Excited bison bounces around after waking to fresh snow at Yellowstone National Park
This fun-loving bison joyfully jumps up and down on the spot after waking up to find a fresh dumping of snow on January 27.
The huge beast bounces around in excitement after seeing up to three inches of fresh flakes have settled on his home in the Yellowstone National Park, US.
Photographer Jennifer Hadley, 49, can be heard giggling as she watched the burly bison playfully prancing through the snow, saying: “He’s just boinking, boinking, boinking!”
Jennifer said: “They clearly had some energy. It was in the middle of the afternoon, and they probably had been snoozing.
“It was so fun to watch them frolic in the snow without a care in the world. It’s a harsh winter for these guys so it’s nice to see them having a little fun too.
“Even young ones are big and heavy so it was delightful to see them prancing around and running like they were big puppies.”
The young bison was one of a large free-roaming herd that Jennifer spent time photographing at the national park.
As well as the play fighting, they tenderly nuzzled one another, before running around and playing together.
They could also be seen practising their battling skills, in preparation for future wars over mating rights.
Jennifer, from Raleigh, added: “The bison that were nuzzling faces have probably grown up together and have been part of this herd and so there is a natural affection but also a playmate to practice sparring with.
“They were the same ones running and playing with each other so clearly they enjoy their mutual playtimes.”
