Chinese New Year celebrations begin with lion dance in office in Bangkok, Thailand

Footage shows office workers enjoying the start of Chinese New Year celebrations in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday January 28.

Locals were performing the traditional lion dance in the entrance of the RS Tower skyscraper in the Huai Khwang area of the capital.

The city - which was founded by settlers from the Far East - has a large population of those descended from mainland China.

Shops are also selling red and gold lanterns, fire crackers, clothes, decorations and other items to mark the annual event, which will see street celebrations have also been planned for the city.

Chinese New Year will be celebrated on February 1, the date that marks the beginning of the new moon. Festivities will end on February 11.
