Frozen wetlands ecosystem in the Axios National Park of Greece due to the extremely low temperatures
The wetlands ecosystem in the Axios National Park froze due to the extremely low temperatures that reached below -6 degrees during the night. Wildlife, rare aquatic and coastal birds found a layer of ice that spread over large areas of the National Park bordering the city of Thessaloniki Greece. During the day the ice melted in some spots with increased flow of water and thanks to the sunshine, allowing the animals to seek their food again in the frozen landscape.
