Rescuers in northeastern India used a digger to save six members of a herd of elephants trapped in a muddy pond.

Footage captured in the Goalpara district of Assam on January 28 showed the animals unable to climb the slippery sides of the water hole.

According to reports, ten elephants had initially entered the pond for a dip but four managed to climb out on their own.

Officials from the Forest Department used a digger to create a route out for the stricken animals which then walked to safety.

Out looking for a bath, a herd of six elephants got stuck in a muddy pond in northeastern India's Assam on January 28.

The incident took place in the Lakhipur area of the Goalpara district.

Visuals feature the elephants struggling to get out of the muddy pond. They try to mount an elevated surface but fail. Later, the jumbo saviors, equipped with JCBs, arrive at the spot and swing into action. They dig out a section of the land, giving the pachyderms a safe passage to evacuate.

Some villagers spotted the struggling jumbos and alerted the Forest Department. Following this, the officials immediately reached the spot and rescued the jumbos using two JCBs.

According to reports, at least 10 elephants went down to the pond to take a bath, following which four of them managed to get out, and six others got stuck.
