Another day of strong winds today (February 1) have hampered the recovery of a large unmanned accommodation barge (ship) that broke its mooring yesterday (January 31) off Kent, UK.

The vessel drifted at speed in an uncontrolled manner resulting in several concerned members of the public dialing 999 to report the incident.

The boat broke its mooring near Riverside Country Park and ended up drifting and lodging itself onto a mud bank in Lower Halstow creek near Sittingbourne, Kent further down the Medway estuary.

Locals were said to be thankful the barge managed to miss hitting many of the moored yachts and boats in the area as shown in this footage recorded at high water today (February 2).

A few on social media were even concerned it could have drifted further and come into contact with notoriously dangerous shipwreck SS Richard Montgomery further downstream, which sank with 1400 tonnes of explosives onboard off Sheerness, Kent.

Once winds abate, it's expected a tug will attempt to recover the vessel on the next suitable high tide.
