A kind woman rescued an injured snapping turtle that was ran over by heartless motorists and left to die in Thailand.

Sirilak Jantakhun was travelling in Phitsanulok province when she spotted the creature stranded on the muddy dirt road while it was raining.

She then pulled over and checked on the animal which was apparently injured. Footage shows the reptile with a broken shell unable to move.

Sirilak said: 'I was driving to work when I saw the turtle. I took it with me and thought of taking it to a temple where it would be taken care of by monks.'

After placing the turtle inside a box, Sirilak drove to a nearby temple and gave it to the monks who agreed to take care of the animal until it was better.
