Locals were seen wearing red dresses while celebrating the Chinese New Year in Bangkok.
Footage shows the merrymakers in the bright clothes roaming the capital's Chinatown where a festive dragon dance was performed on February 1.
Red-and-gold cheongsam dresses – a type of Chinese form-fitting clothing – as well as an assortment of lucky charms and food could also be seen being sold on sidewalks.
Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year, is the start of a new year based on a calendar that follows moon cycles. In other communities, it is referred to as the Spring Festival.
Thailand’s capital city – which was founded by settlers from the Far East – has a large population of those descended from mainland China. Many moved to other provinces around the country.
The 2022 Chinese New Year falls on February 1, the date that marks the beginning of the new moon. Festivities typically last for 15 days until the moon becomes full.
