Vaccine medics wear red-and-gold robes to mark Chinese News Year in Thailand
Vaccine medics wore red-and-gold robes to mark the Chinese New Year in Thailand.
The vaccination centre was decorated with paper lanterns and red carpets in celebration of the Chinese New Year in Khon Kaen province on February 1.
Doctors and nurses were also seen wearing cheongsam dresses - a type of Chinese form-fitting clothing - while vaccinating the district’s residents.
The local government also scheduled an all-day vaccination service for the general public to receive their first, second and third dose injection according to the policy set by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health.
Mayor of Muang Phon Municipality said: 'Vaccination services against COVID-19 to the people in the district and nearby districts continue to operate to meet the goals set by the Ministry of Public Health in creating an immunity covering all areas of Thailand.
'Locals in line for vaccination were also seen wearing qipao and colourful clothes. This activity brought smiles and laughter throughout the day.'
Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year, is the start of a new year based on a calendar that follows moon cycles. In other communities, it is referred to as the Spring Festival.
Thailand’s capital city – which was founded by settlers from the Far East – has a large population of those descended from mainland China. Many moved to other provinces around the country.
The 2022 Chinese New Year fell on February 1, the date that marks the beginning of the new moon. Festivities typically last for 15 days until the moon becomes full.
