The Five Wells HMP new mega prison in Wellingborough is set to start receiving its first inmates in the coming months.
This new mega prison is being run by the private company G4S who won the £300 million contract in 2020. The prison has the capacity to hold 1680 prisoners and is set to receive its first inmates in early February. Initially the prison is only going to be used to house category C prisoners.

This modern mega prison has moved away from the traditional K shaped design of many British prisons and is being held up as a new flag ship prison with a greater focus on rehabilitation of offenders rather than punishment.
The British government are hoping that the opening of Five Wells HMP will be the start of a long process in reforming the British penal system.
