Police in Indonesia are still hunting for a bus driver who ploughed his vehicle into a bridge, injuring at least 17 people.

The roof of the bus was torn off on January 30 during the accident in West Sumatra province.

The incident took place in the city of Padang Panjang at 6 am local time.

The driver allegedly fled the scene in the immediate aftermath.

A bus collided with a bridge in Indonesia, the roof fell off and at least 17 people were injured.

The incident occurred before the bus terminal in the city of Padangpanjang, West Sumatra province at 6 am.

Footage filmed by a YouTuber, Yansen, shows a badly damaged bus with the roof off.

West Sumatra regional police spokesman, Commissioner Stefanus Satake Bayu said there were 20 passengers on the bus, 17 of whom were injured and rushed to the hospital.

"The bus driven by the second driver is suspected to be traveling at high speed from Bukittinggi to Jambi. However, the driver is suspected of not knowing the route, so he took the wrong route," Bayu said.

As of Monday (February 7), a week after crash the police are still hunting for the bus driver who has fled since the accident occurred.
