Sir Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party, was escorted to safety by police in central London on February 7 after a protest that was in support of the trucker convoy in Canada.

In the video, protesters can be heard shouting "traitor" and "Jimmy Savile" at him.

"He was lucky to get out. In fact, it was really heavy, quite scary," Newsflare's filmer said.

Last week UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson falsely claimed in Parliament that Sir Keir personally failed to prosecute sex offender Savile.

Conservative MP Julian Smith, a former Cabinet minister, called on Johnson to withdraw his claim. "What happened to Keir Starmer tonight outside parliament is appalling," he tweeted. "It is really important for our democracy & for his security that the false Savile slurs made against him are withdrawn in full."

Shadow foreign secretary David Lammy, who is seen walking next to Sir Keir in the video, tweeted on Monday evening: "No surprise the conspiracy theorist thugs who harassed @Keir_Starmer & I repeated slurs we heard from @BorisJohnson last week at the despatch box. Intimidation, harassment and lies have no place in our democracy. And they won’t ever stop me doing my job."
