An Indian man is at the centre of a dramatic rescue mission, after becoming trapped on a cliff face for over 36 hours.

Malampuzha village in Kerala’s Palakkad district is witnessing a real life version of Hollywood movie ‘127 Hours’ as the 23-year-old youth, R Babu, remains stuck in a cleft in the steep sides of a hill.

According to friends, he was trekking with them when he slipped and fell into the gap in the cliff face on Monday 7 February, injuring himself as he did so.

The emergency services, on foot and using a helicopter, were unable to rescue him that night, so now the Army has been called in.

Attempts are being made to bring food and water to him while they work on getting him to safety.

R Babu along with his friends was on trekking the hills on 7th February noon , according to his friends while trekking down hill Babu slipped and fell down the cleft .
According to palakkad collector Mrunmayi Joshi they received information that 23-year-old Babu was stuck in the pocket of the mountain on Monday evening. The police, forest, fireforce and civil defence volunteers tried to rescue him monday evening but was unsuccessful.
Two teams of NDRF and a coast guard chopper also tried to rescue but was unsuccessful. According to authorities it is a very steep mountain and that is the difficulty in rescuing babu. Now the army has been called for help .
Babu suffered injuris on his legs , attempts are being made to bring food and water to him .
