Beautiful dawn footage of Roe deer feeding on buttercups
Watch some beautiful close-up footage of this female Roe deer in Grasmere, Cumbria, UK on Thursday morning.
According to the filmer, the doe gave birth to a calf about a week ago and is seen feeding at dawn on the lush grass & buttercups.
“Roe deer make dog-like barking noises when startled or alarmed. Young Roe deer make a highpitched whistle to attract their mothers when they become lost and are almost impossible to spot in the long grass,” the filmer later wrote online.
“Roe deer are highly selective feeders and eat small quantities of a wide variety of plant types. They select highly nutritious plants and therefore browse rather than graze. They enjoy herbs, cereals, hedgerow plants, heather, and young trees as well as some garden plants. Deer do not have a top set of front incisors but instead have a hard pad that acts to tear vegetation
rather than cut it.”
