Hundreds of Hong Kongers lined up in the territory's financial district on Wednesday 9 February to take Covid-19 PCR tests.

Residents queued at a testing centre in Central, the business and financial heart of Hong Kong, as the government confirmed a daily record of 1,161 cases.

While that number may appear small to outsiders, it is the first time the daily case count has surpassed 1,000 since the pandemic began. Hong Kong has also seen its first deaths from the virus in roughly six months.
