12:28 hrs on Thursday, February 10, 2022 a working bedroom fire was struck for 112 Birch Street in Shamokin.
Local EMS confirmed a column and police arrived and confirmed working fire with entrapment. As command arrived he was told local police were inside the building and not answering the radio. The police officer came out and was evaluated by EMS.
Command quickly struck a second alarm due to the fire being in a row with heavy fire on the third floor. Units quickly made entry and found one victim and at 1248 EMS was requested to the front of the building. Sadly despite attempts of the firefighters and EMS the victim passed away shortly after.
A third alarm was sounded to bring additional manpower to the scene to help contain the blaze. During the fire, firefighters had not only to deal with narrow streets to access the blaze but also one of the homes involved was under construction with reported holes in the floors.
As of now no cause has been determined but Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal was working with local police & fire marshal to investigate the cause of the fire.
An interview with Shamokin Fire Chief Stephen Jeffery.
