This is the heart-stopping moment a brave toddler overcame his fears - and stood on top of a human tower during Chinese New Year celebrations in Thailand.

Video taken in Bangkok on February 1 shows the performers - some of them young boys - wearing red costumes and balancing on each other's shoulders to form the gymnastic formation.

On top of the human tower sat a youngster who clung to another boy's face to keep from falling. All of them were able to safely get down.

Onlooker Wi Orangey said: 'The boy looked scared, but I thought he is quite talented being able to do that at a young age.'

Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year, is the start of a new year based on a calendar that follows moon cycles. In other communities, it is referred to as the Spring Festival.

Thailand’s capital city – which was founded by settlers from the Far East – has a large population of those descended from mainland China. Many moved to other provinces around the country, while in Chiang Mai in the north of the country, Chinese settlers crossed directly from the nearby border.

The 2022 Chinese New Year fell on February 1, the date that marks the beginning of the new moon. Festivities typically last for 15 days until the moon becomes full.
