A group of freedivers in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, had a close encounter with humpback whales as the marine mammals swam right past them.

This spectacular video shows Daniel Robledo and his buddies encountering the whales during one of their ocean adventures.

"We were swimming with dolphins and suddenly saw some humpback whales underneath," Robledo said.

"They (the whales) stayed with us for a while and were a bit curious about us, and that's when we tried to freedive with them."

This footage was shot on January 2020.

The filmer leaves no stone unturned in making the most of this precious opportunity and is able to swim pretty close to the gentle giants.
